Vanderhoof’s Hunter Floris, a former Bear, is now listed by the Tri-City Americans of the Western Hockey League.

Announced by the Cariboo Cougars on Jan. 2, Floris is on his first year with the Prince George team and his second year in the BC Hockey Major Midget League.

Floris, 16 and measuring six feet in height, was named to the first all-star team roster at the Mac’s AAA Midget Tournament, where he led the cats to a second straight semi-final appearance. During the tournament, he scored eight goals and five assists in the six games he played.

“I’m having a really good season, with a good line and a good team,” Floris said. “I like to score goals and I try to be a little bit faster, working on skating and trying to be more extensive as a player.”

Floris played hockey since he was four years old “been on the ice since I was able to” and he hopes to make the Tri-City American team in the next year or two and see where it takes him, he said.

“I think I can work on being more communicative amongst my team, and my passing and shooting,” Floris said. “That’s what every player likes to do, to get to the best of their ability.”
