Formidable Friends, a fit and competitive group of Oceanside athletes, brought home the gold again in the great grand masters category at the Snow to Surf Relay in the Comox Valley.
The largest race of it’s kind in Canada, the Snow to Surf Relay tests the strength of everyone involved from both an individual and team aspect. There are nine legs which see team members downhill skiing, snowshoeing, skate-skiing, two running sections, mountain biking, kayaking, road biking and canoeing to the finish line.
During the running portion of the race, one of the team members sprained her ankle after three kilometers on a trail. She continued the race and ran with grit and determination, not putting a dent in their final time. The Formidable Friends rang the final bell at five hours and 31 minutes.
“The win was particularly sweet for the group as we beat several younger teams and even managed to surpass the time of a senior military team,” team captain Sheri Plummer said.
