The fourth annual Founder’s Cup Saturday at the Fred Couples Signature Course at The Rise is a bargain for $150.
Featuring nearly $10,000 in prizes, players get a round of golf on a world-class track, brunch, dinner and a crested golf shirt just for entering. Shoot well in the two-person, best-ball format and you will walk away with some attractive prizes.
“We’re sitting at about 90 and our magic goal is 100,” said head pro Lee Ranger. “Anyone wanting to register can just call our pro shop (250-545-7425).”
The tournament is named after the 21 founding members who hail mainly from Vancouver and Alberta. Defending champions are Vernon’s Justin Baillargeon and DJ Szestopalow.
There are various flights with prizes for low gross and net winners. Play begins with a 1:30 shotgun start.
n Salmon Arm’s Linda Rivard, Lauris Black, Norma Hobbs and Joan Hokanson finished at 124 to win the Capri Insurance Two Lady Low Net title Tuesday at Vernon.
Lisa Weir, Pam Page, Patti Kidd and Jacqui Jakeman of Spallumcheen took second at 128 on a countback over Vernon’s Jackie Jones, Mia Sakakibara, Trudy Walker and Thelma Trickett.
Vernon’s Janice Allen, Lorna Jascke, Joyce Ross and Sue Carder finished fourth at 129, while Vernon’s Rosemarie Rachwalski, Sandra Harder, Pam Regier and Jenn Marsh placed fifth at 130.
n Spall’s Brad Jones missed the cut at the 108th Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship at Camelot G&CC in Cumberland, Ont. and Club de golf Outaouais in Rockland, Ont.
The 19-year-old struggled from the start Tuesday, carding three bogeys and a double-bogey over the first four holes to end round one with a 5-over 77. He settled down somewhat on the back nine, recording three birdies to go along with a pair of bogies and one double-bogey.
Jones buckled down in round two Wednesday, posting three birdies on the front nine, and just two bogeys on the day to finish with a 1-under 71.
Stephane Dubois of Brantford, Ont. topped the leaderboard at 10-under (68-66) after two rounds.
The winner will earn an exemption into the 2013 RBC Canadian Open and 2012 U.S. Amateur.
