Four Ramblers wrestlers win gold

Maple Ridge wrestlers on to provincial championships

Numerous local wrestlers from Maple Ridge secondary qualified for the provincials, after the Ramblers hosted the Upper Fraser Valley Wrestling Championships Saturday in the Ken Dockendorf gymnasium.

The Ramblers woman’s wrestling team dominated the competition. Leading the charge were Teegan Maschke, Ashleigh Roy, Ivy Threatful and Norah Wilkes who all captured gold medals.

Placing second were Abby Blinko, Soleil Brookes, and Madisyn Grof.

The men’s team placed sixth as a team in arguably the toughest zone in the province with Adrian Truong, Jacob McClure and Ryan Hicks all earning hard-fought silver medals. Hicks, Grade 11, who won a national championship last year, will be a favourite to medal at provincials. Truong, Grade 10, also won bronze at nationals last year.

The Ridge wrestling team hopes to take this winning momentum into the Langley Events Center next Monday and Tuesday, as they compete in the B.C. High School Championships.

“All Ridge wrestling fans are cordially invited to attend and watch their favorite athletes go for the gold,” said MRSS wrestling coach Bill McCrae.
