Mackenzie Fowler of Mission helped B.C.’s provincial under-18 girls rugby team to a silver medal at the Rugby Canada National Championship Festival, held last week in Vancouver.
Team B.C. dominated their first two round-robin games, blasting Manitoba 53-5 and Nova Scotia 29-7, before falling 27-0 to Ontario in their round robin finale.
B.C. and Ontario met once again in the Cup final, and the Eastern squad prevailed once again, winning 25-5.
“They were a strong team,” Fowler said of Ontario. “They had a good defence, put a lot of pressure on us. We did the same to them, but they executed better than we did.
“Overall, I thought we did pretty well. We battled hard, and we worked as a team.”
Fowler, who scored two tries during the national tourney, recently graduated from Heritage Park Secondary and is headed to the University of the Fraser Valley to take kinesiology this fall.
