Maple Ridge softball star Larissa Franklin has been honoured for her achievements in the NCAA.
The Western Kentucky University softball outfielder was named one of 30 Senior CLASS Award candidates for her accomplishments on and off the field, the organization announced on Thursday.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior, and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
Franklin, a NFCA All-Region and All-Conference center fielder, has excelled in the leadoff spot for WKU. She leads the Lady Toppers with a .431 batting average and 25 hits, with a team-high 15 runs and five steals in 16 games.
Her talents exceed the collegiate game, as she has played with the Canadian National Team multiple times and was recently one of 15 athletes selected to play for her home country in the Pan American Games this summer.
Franklin is equally impressive in the classroom. She was named to the Academic honor rolls numerous times while at IPFW. Earning Academic All-Summit League honors, the psychology major is minoring in health and nutrition.
“Larissa is a great all-around student-athlete who excels in life,” said WKU head coach Amy Tudor, who coached Franklin in her first two years at IPFW. “She impacts people and gives her very best to make herself better and those around her better.”
The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2015 Women’s College World Series on May 28.
