Fraser Valley Cardinals bantams win four at home

Strong weekend for all three local baseball teams

The Fraser Valley Cardinals bantam baseball team continued its impressive run at home, picking up a pair of wins over the Victoria Eagles in a doubleheader on Saturday.

The Cards picked up a 4-3 win in game one, and followed that up with a 6-3 win in game two.

The bantams now have a perfect 4-0 record on home field at Townline Park and sit third overall in the British Columbia Premier Bantam Baseball League with a record of 4-1.

The Cardinals junior team also had a solid weekend at home, taking three of four from the Okanagan Athletics on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday’s game one saw the Athletics score four runs in the top of the seventh to win 6-4. Catcher Josh Pilgrim led the Cardinals with two hits.

Fraser Valley bounced back on Saturday with a dominant 9-2 win, with four runs in each of the second and fourth innings. Outfielder Brendan Morrison drove in three runs to lead all players.

The Cardinals continued the strong play in Sunday’s game one, scoring three runs in the third to win 3-2. Cards pitcher Mitchell Middlemiss earned the win and allowed just four hits and one run, while striking out eight.

Fraser Valley closed the weekend with an 11-6 win. Morrison again drove in three runs, while Brady Fehlauer and Connor Krahn each drove in two. Pilgrim, Krahn and Fehlauer all collected two hits.

The juniors sit fifth in the BCJPBL with a record of 7-4.

The Cardinals senior team hit the road on Sunday, and won both games against the North Delta Blue Jays.

Game one featured a great pitching performance from Micah Buckman, who threw five shutout innings and allowed just five hits while striking out six to lead Fraser Valley to a 2-1 win.

The Cards offence exploded in game two, as they scored six runs in the first inning to win 10-0. Liam Knight drove in four runs, while Kole Jessamine and Chad Pedersen both drove in two. Kayden Beauregard, Romer Snow, Knight, Jessamine and Pedersen all got two hits.

The seniors are in fourth place with a record of 5-3.
