Three local players helped the Fraser Valley Jets capture a provincial hockey championship in Hope last weekend.
The Jets are a team that plays in the South Coast Women’s Hockey League.
Amanda Christie, Kelsey Firkus and Hunter Joseph hail from the Chilliwack/Agassiz region and Firkus scored one of the Jets goals in their title-clinching win.
The Jets took down the Kamloops Vibe Sunday at the Hope and District Rec. Centre, taking top spot in a six-team tournament that also included the South Fraser TNT, Richmond Devils, Meadow Ridge Moose and North Shore Rebels.
The Jets rolled through provincials without surrendering a single goal.
They started with a 4-0 shutout of the Devils, with Firkus scoring.
She produced one goal and two assists in a 3-0 win over the South Fraser TNT and collected another two points (one goal, one assist) in a 2-0 semi-final rematch with the same opponent.
Christie set up her goal.
“Winning our second championship in a row was of course an incredible moment but winning in front of the Hope community that came together and helped put on a excellent tournament made it that much more special,” she said.
