Fraser Valley residents helped lead the Team Canada men’s and women’s national roller hockey teams to solid finishes at the World Roller Games in China, which wrapped up on Sept. 10.
The women’s team, with Valley natives Alexandra Garb and Brooke Ludolph, ended up with a third-place finish by beating the Czech Republic in the bronze-medal game. The women fell 3-2 to the USA, the eventual gold-medal winners, in the semifinal.
The win is the second consecutive medal the women have picked up at the Games, having entered the tournament as the defending champions.
The men’s team – with Valley natives Trent Vilio, Matthew Garb, Stefan Virtanen and Brad Carr – lost to the defending world champion Czech Republic in the bronze-medal game.
The men defeated Switzerland 7-1 in the quarterfinals to move to the semifinal versus eventual champion France, where they lost and moved on to the bronze game.
The men finished fourth of 20 nations. For more on the event, visit rollersports.org.
