The 100 Mile House Free Press Sharp Shooters hosted the Williams Lake Green Hornets in an Atom House exhibition game on Nov. 19 at the South Cariboo Rec. Centre (SCRC).
Free Press, coached by Matt Carr, won the game 12-4, with a hat trick going to Cole Allan and deuces to Wylon Hall, William Harrod and Joe Benastick.
The local squad started strong and held a 3-1 lead at the end of the first period with goals by Benastick, Allan and Hall.
By the end of the second, they had widened the margin to 7-3. Free Press goals came from Dylan Carr, Allan, Harrod and Benastick.
The third period saw the Free Press outscore the Hornets, 5-1 with final-frame markers by Levi McQueen, Ethan Sanders, Allan, Hall and Harrod.
It was the first time this season the Free Press had played a team outside of the 100 Mile & District Minor Hockey Association.
Division co-ordinator Karen McLean says it was a real treat for the players.
“It was really fun for them because they usually only get to play 100 Mile teams, other than a couple of tournaments.”
The team will travel to Williams Lake on the first weekend in December for an Atom house tournament, and in February, the 100 Mile House club will host an Atom tournament.
In other weekend exhibition action at the SCRC, 100 Mile Primal Electric Shockers Atoms downed Williams Lake Dominators, 11-1, with a hat trick registered by Primal’s Spencer Haggstrom.
Bantam House Mayvin Milers took on the Home Hardware Midget House team, but were doubled 14-7 by the older and more experienced squad. Milers Emmett Collens and Lee Bromely each scored hat tricks, and Home Hardware’s Dan Munro and Colton Ray were also good for hat tricks as well.
A tighter game transpired between Novice Transformers Collision and Novice Central RV Ramblers, with the Ramblers winning that contest 4-1.
Also in the Novice House division, Central GM Sonics outlasted the Central GM Avalanche for a 10-6 victory.
