‘Freedom Run’ aims to help Afghan school girls

On June 26 the first annual Aldergrove Freedom Run 5000, a 2-, 5- and 10-km walk and fun run will take place.

Freedom Run 5000 is an event to bring education to the children of Afghanistan by building 100 classrooms.

ADRA Canada, with A Better World Canada, is working to make the dream of hope and opportunity for the children a reality. The first 16 of the 100 classrooms will be completed by the race date.

The Freedom Run takes place at Fraser Valley Adventist Academy, 26026 – 48 Ave., Aldergrove on June 26 at 9 a.m. Cost for entrants is 10k $35, 5k $25, and 2k $15. For information see website http://www.freedomrun5000.org or call 604-607-3822.

A Better World is a central Alberta based international development organization that was founded in 1990. It is supported and managed entirely by a diverse group of volunteers dedicated to improving lives. ABW is a registered charitable, non-profit organization that partners with communities in Afghanistan, Tibet, Bolivia, India, and Eastern Africa to provide developmental aid.

The race is on! A 2011 Recumbent Bike (Stowaway Folding Tadpole Trike) valued at $2,000 will be given to the top overall fundraiser. It is sponsored by Running Room in Abbotsford.
