Evan Campbell is trading his Rivermen jersey for one of the River Hawks.
Following a torrid start to the season, the Langley Rivermen forward has committed to the UMass Lowell River Hawks hockey program.
The Port Coquitlam native has scored twice and set up six others in three games so far in the BCHL season. He missed the first couple of games of the season to injury.
“He had a rough start going down with an injury in training camp, but he has worked very hard to get back in the line-up,” said Rivermen coach and general manager Bobby Henderson.
“We are seeing just a glimpse of what is to come with the start he has had so far.”
Campbell, a 19-year-old forward from Port Coquitlam, is in his second season with Langley.
He joined the Rivermen part way through last season after starting with Coquitlam.
Campbell finished with 12 goals and nine assists in 48 games with the two junior A hockey clubs.
“Evan focuses a lot of his time this off-season into training and it’s the hardest he has worked and even put on 15 pounds to show for it,” Henderson said.
“He has gone through a lot of adversity in his young career so far and we believe the sky is the limit for this kid.”
Campbell is six-foot-two and weighs 190 pounds.
He will join the River Hawks in either 2013 or 2014. He is the fourth player on the Langley roster to commit to a U.S. school.
The Rivermen host Prince George twice this weekend at the Langley Events Centre. The teams face off on Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
