They entered the B.C. AA Boys Basketball Championships in Langley as the seventh seed.
The Fulton Maroons will have left the tournament with a higher finish.
Dale Olson’s squad took on Chilliwack’s G.W. Graham Grizzlies for fifth place Saturday.
Fulton improved to 2-1 Friday with a convincing 90-65 romp over the 14th-ranked Langley Christian Lightning, outscoring Langley 25-7 in the second quarter to take a 21-point lead into the intermission.
Tye Kitzman led the Maroons with 20 points, Darrien Broomfield added 18, Karanmeet Khatra popped in 15 and Cory Ang reached double digits with 14 points.
The Maroons were two minutes away from advancing to the final four Thursday.
Fulton had erased a 20-point deficit against the second-seeded Southridge Storm of Surrey before falling 85-78 in a quarterfinal matchup.
“The boys played their hearts out to come back from down 20,” said Olson. “We took the lead and led until 1:29 left. It went back-and-forth and we lost it in the end.
“We were undersized, they had a big kid who really hurt us. Can’t fault the effort. Not many teams play as hard as these kids. We were a couple of bounces away from winning.”
The big kid that hurt Fulton was the Storm’s 6-foot-7 forward, Hunter Hughes, who finished with 40 points. Sam Chan added 18.
Guard Brandon Isaac led Fulton with 31 points, Kitzman chipped in 18 and Ang contributed 16 points.
The Vernon Panthers played the Windsor Dukes of North Vancouver for 11th place Saturday at the provincial AAA finals in Langley.
The Panthers dropped an 86-73 decision to Richmond’s McNair Marlins Friday morning, falling to 1-2.
The duo of 6-foot-1 guard Kevin Yang (31) and 6-foot-4 forward Owen Vint (28) combined for 59 of the Marlins’ 86 points. McNair enjoyed a 46-27 lead at the break.
John Garvie led the Panthers with 33 points, including five three-point shots.
Leon Schenker was 4-8 from beyond the arc and finished with 14 points, the only other Vernon player to reach double digits.
