Fun on the ice at the Draft Tournament

The Draft Tournament returned to Penticton on the long weekend

The Draft Tournament returned to Penticton on the long weekend, bringing recreational hockey players from all over North America to the city.

The tournament offers a unique experience for players, who get drafted to a team for the weekend and skate beside players of all different skill levels. The focus being having fun both on and off the ice.

Each tournament has a theme, and players get to keep the jersey, pant shell and socks uniquely designed for that weekend. Penticton’s uniforms were all based around the theme of wine.

After two days of games, it was Team Riesling that won the A final, defeating Team Rosé 4-3. Cody Baker netted two goals for Team Riesling with Pete Dolling and Linda Haig-Brown adding singles. David Stevens had the hat trick for Team Rosé.

The B final went to a shootout with Team Chardonnay defeating Pinot Noir 5-4. Carson David, who was the tournament scoring leader (20 points), had a hat trick for Team Chardonnay. Aimee Konet scored one in regular time and the shootout winner. Trevor Purcell netted two for Pinot Noir and Lee Mowry and Jason Elkins added singles.

Team Champagne won the C final 6-4 over Team Cab Sav thanks to goals from Mike Kleckner, Carolyn Ross, Gordan Red Crow, Tom Brasch, Jason Duffy and Nicki Lucas-Anderson. Jay Davidson scored two for Team Cab Sav and Zach Froc and Matthew Bird each had a goal.
