For the second year in a row, some of the world’s top up-and-coming young tennis players will showcase their skills in the Okanagan.
The second annual Kelowna Futures Tennis Tournament, featuring $15,000 in prize money, will be held June 29 to July 7 at the Parkinson Rec Centre Courts.
The event will provide valuable ATP Tour world-ranking points to the competitors and is sanctioned by Tennis Canada and the International Tennis Federation.
Futures tournaments are a launching pad for professional tennis players in their quest to compete in ATP and Grand Slam events. The Futures tournament in Kelowna will attract world-ranked players ranging from No. 200 to 1500, elite NCAA Division 1 collegiate players, as well as top Canadian men and junior competitors.
“This years event will be bigger and better than our very successful inaugural tournament in 2012,” said Joachim Nierfeld, tournament organizer ands Tennis B.C. Regional Director“ This elite tournament will be the tennis highlight of the year and will provide great entertainment for sports fans and inspiration for our rising junior stars.”
In conjunction with the tournament the Little Aces Community Tennis Program will be featured on July 5. The program encourages children 12 years of age and under to take up this sport for a lifetime. Little Aces has been developed by Tennis Canada and Tennis BC in partnership with the City of Kelowna and the Kelowna School District. “Little Aces fits perfectly with the tournament to raise the profile of tennis in the Okanagan,” Nierfeld added.
