With two performances down, Cloverdale Rodeo’s first pool has wrapped up.
New names are rising in rankings, giving champions from the 2018 competition a run for their money. With $300,000 in prize money on the line — the Cloverdale Rodeo is the second richest rodeo in Canada, behind only the Calgary Stampede — the competition is sure to be fierce.
After a nail-biter opener on Friday, and a deciding Saturday afternoon re-match, Pool A has been decided. The top six from each event will move on to the finals on Monday.

Last year’s bareback bronc riding champion, Caleb Bennett, finished Saturday afternoon with an impressive 89-point ride.

Saddle bronc rider Rusty Wright has flipped the rankings, rising from sixth on Friday with an 84.5 to the top spot on Saturday with a solid 91. Last year’s champion, Zeke Thurston, sits in second.

Five bull riders held in for the full eight seconds to qualify for the standings. (Three made it on Friday.) Toby Collins, who cleaned up the competition last year, was sitting pretty in first place after Friday but is now tied for fourth spot.

As is usual, the barrel racing standings are separated by milliseconds.
Callahan Crossley, last year’s barrel racing champion, had an incredible showing on Saturday afternoon, crossing the line with a 15.985 to massive cheers from the packed stands.
If a barrel racer wants to go home with money, they’re going to have to cut their time down to at least a 16.200 at the Monday finals.
