Michele Garceau of Surrey was among the annual award winners announced by Squash BC from the 2013-14 season.
Garceau was named winner of the Massey Goolden Trophy, designated to honor junior players for achievement combined with sportsmanship last season, she captured the U19 Girls Provincial Championship, and won nearly every event she entered. She lost a heart breaking semi-final at the nationals, and finished fourth in the country.
Garceau has volunteered as a mentor with the Squash BC provincial training squad and spends time with the younger juniors both on and off the court.
“Her sportsmanship displayed on court, win or lose, is the standard for which everyone should strive,” said a Squash BC press release. “She is certainly worthy of this award as she has demonstrated great achievement and wonderful sportsmanship can go together.”
