Gateway girls gong Griffith

Ty Griffith’s Nufloors should probably file a police report against Jenn Gerow after what happened Wednesday night at the Vernon Curling Club. The charge – theft.

Gerow’s Gateway Mechanical recorded six straight steals to brush back Griffith 7-1 in what turned out to be as much a three-on-three family challenge as it was a Baron Insurance Super League game.

Griffith, now tied with Jim Cotter’s Woodland Equipment at 10-4, responded with a single in seven, but Gerow (4-10), curling against older brother Darin, completed the upset with a single in eight.

Blake Kimura’s Village Green Hotel earned an upset of their own with a 7-6 win over Cotter.

With the two rinks tied 3-3 after five ends, Cotter collected a deuce in six, only to watch Kimura (5-8) respond with a three-ender in seven to take the lead.

Cotter counted one in eight to force an extra end, but the veteran Kimura came through with a hit-and-roll to the four-foot to seal the win.

Brad Kuhn’s North Enderby Timber took sole possession of first at 11-3 by stopping Dave Merklinger’s Jet Ice 6-4.

With little brother Ryan at skip, the NET crew collected a triple in two and deuce in four to go up 5-2 at the midway point.

The 9-4 Jet Ice crew answered with singles in five and seven, but NET, using great setups by super lead Robbi Kuhn, closed with a single in eight.

T.J. Perepolkin started strong and just kept going as his Canaccord Wealth Management razed Wayne Laface’s Inspiration Homes 9-2.

After giving up a deuce in one, Laface (9-6) made a clutch shot to avoid a Perepolkin steal in two.

The Canaccord front end went to work on the brooms, guiding a rock for a tiny bump for two in the fourth end.

The two rinks traded singles in five and six, and facing a draw against five in seven, Laface’s final shot picked, resulting in a big steal and handshakes. Perepolkin improved to 8-7.

In a battle of junior rinks, Jon Gardner’s Sladen Moore pocketed a pair of two-point steals in the early ends to earn a 9-3 win over Kayla Gunner’s Armstrong Inn.

Gardner, now 8-7, racked on a guard in the fourth end, leaving Gunner, now 2-12, a draw for three.

Gardner, who will compete in the M&M Meat Shops Canadian Juniors starting Jan. 29 in Calgary, countered with an open draw for five in the fifth end.

Meanwhile, Prince George’s Patti Knezevic, with Vernon’s Chelan Cotter at second, is 1-5 at the Scotties B.C. Women’s Championships in Cloverdale.

After falling 7-3 to Kelowna’s Kelly Scott in their Monday opener, Knezevic responded with a 7-5 win against Nanaimo’s Nicole Backe. Losses to Richmond’s Kristy Lewis (6-4), Royal City’s Kelly Law (6-4), Kamloops’ Karla Thompson (8-1) and Duncan’s Roz Craig (6-5) have Knezevic in a three-way share of last place.

Law is undefeated at 6-0, followed by Scott and Craig at 5-1.
