Gators go pink for Payne

White House Mortgage Gators don pink uniforms in memory of teammate Lisa Payne, who died Tuesday after a second battle with breast cancer.

The White House Mortgage Gators added a splash of pink to their uniforms Wednesday night to honour teammate Lisa Payne, who died Tuesday after a second battle with breast cancer.

They plan to keep wearing pink for the remainder of the Vernon Square Liquor Store Women’s Slo-Pitch League season, not only as a way of remembering Payne, but also because they are on a roll in their new threads.

The Gators remained undefeated as they hammered the expansion Ice Cold Pitches 29-3 at Kin Park Wednesday.

Melissa Locke batted 5-for-5 with two RBI, Jenn Thatcher went 4-for-4 with a pair of ground-rule doubles and three ribbies and Jen Doyle also hit 4-for-4 with three RBI and a home run.

Speedy newcomer Jayden Horochuck smacked three hits, including two doubles and three RBI, Alenna Cameron had three hits, a triple and three RBI and Meridee Schindel, returning from vacation, chipped in with three hits and two RBI.

In the other Wednesday-nighter, Lumby’s Ted Luszcz Bulldozing Dozers outgunned the Dynamite 23-16.

Wendy Sherman, playing injured, cranked five hits, including a pair of monster doubles and four RBI. Returning Rebecca Warnes went 4-for-6 with a double and a ribbie and Tara Young was 2-for-3 with a triple and  two RBI.

The Dynamite had a strong start with Shelly Ouellette going 5-for-5, Kathy Hatten went 4-for-5, Paige Holbrook hit 2-for-3 and Sandi Demers 3-for-4.

The outfield had a workout in the second half, with Jackie Stakkistaad and Paige Holbrook making some great catches and plays to keep the Dynamite in the game.
