The Oceanside Minor Hockey Association is keen to grow Canada’s game in Parksville Qualicum Beach.
For this year, OMHA expects plenty of newcomers to the ice, thanks in part to two new programs available in this region.
Canadian Tire’s First Shift program was recently held in Parksville for the first time, organized and hosted by the Oceanside Generals. The First Shift program makes hockey accessible, affordable, and safe for new-to-hockey kids aged 6-10. It focuses on having fun while learning basic hockey skills. All new equipment is included with registration, which is only $199.
The other program is new-to-hockey for kids five-and-under, 11-and-older, or those 6-10, who are keen to jump right in to their first season of hockey. OMHA has made it very affordable to hit the ice with a $99 registration fee for the 2018-2019 season, which is from September to March.
OMHA has already had about three times as many new-to-hockey registrations as last year’s and is expecting many more before hockey begins in just over a month.
