The Quality Foods Oceanside Generals tamed the Peninsula Panthers twice last week.
After dropping their first three games of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League season, the Generals got in the win column courtesy of the Panthers
In their first encounter at the Panorama Centre Sept. 14, the game was initially close, with the first period ending scoreless. In the second, the Panthers drew a string of early penalties which the Generals took advantage of, scoring back-to-back goals a minute apart, netted by Elijah Goyer and Jory Swanson.
The Generals went on to secure their first win of the season when they notched two more goals, one at even-strength by Aleko Karamanis and the other a shorthanded goal by Greyson Weme.
Goalie Jacob Sweet, named the star player for the Generals, turned away 31 shots to earn the shutout victory, his first of the season.
On Saturday, the Generals hosted the Panthers at Oceanside Place.
The Panthers were first to hit the scoreboard, on a power play, with Tanner Wort scoring at 3:20 and it stayed that way for the remainder of the period. In the second, the Generals went on the offensive and a minute into the period, Landon Dziadyk netted the equalizer. Just over 40 seconds later, Elijah Goyers made it 2-0 before Dziadyk found the back of the net again to give the Generals a 3-1 lead at the end of the frame.
In the final period, the Panthers cut the lead by just a goal when they scored on the power play at 6:14.
But just past the mid-way mark, Ryan Ignace made it 4-2.
The Panthers dominated in the last period but were often stymied by Generals goalie Sweet, who ended up with 35 saves to earn his second win in a row.
The Generals will be back at home Saturday to take on the Saanich Braves at 7 p.m. at Oceanside Place.
