In terms of players the field has been full for weeks, and in terms of action, big field down at the Community Park will be jumping on Saturday as players from up and down the Island take to the pitch for the fourth annual Parksville Ultimate Tournament.
Organized by local Ultimate Frisbee (or flying disc, as Frisbee is a corporate name) aficionado Diana Joly, the tourney is all about having fun and spreading the word.
Joly plays in the six-team Tuesday night Nanaimo Ultimate Frisbee League, “and Courtenay also has a league,” she said, pointing out, “I’d love to get a league going here, but we just haven’t found enough people that are interested.”
As for Saturday, Joly said there will be players of all levels from up and down the rock, as well as Lasqueti and Cortes Islands in town for the tourney.
There are no team entries, the names of all participants are thrown into a hat and the teams drawn from there.
“We have enough players for five times,” she said, adding “last I counted I have 75 people from all lover coming together and playing Ultimate for the day. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
There will be two games going on at one time. Games start at 9 a.m. and run through to 5:30 p.m.
