The Nelson Rowing Club will be running its Learn to Row program starting in May

With spring activities officially underway, sport clubs and participants need to be prepared for the inevitable spring rainouts and schedule changes. All things considered, however, it feels good to be outside and feel the spring sun and breeze on our skin as we bike, run and play.

The Nelson Rowing Club will be running its Learn to Row program starting in May with six two-hour lessons. Registration cost is $170. All lessons are on the water and all equipment is provided. Participants must be able to swim. Please call Sophie De Pauw at 250-505-5231 or email: sophiacles@yahoo.com

The Nelson Regional Sports Council aims to support and strengthen community sport in our region. Focusing on both youth and adult sport, the council offers services and support where it can. It is the council’s AGM next month and consequently is looking for new board members. If you are an individual interested in and committed to the delivery of grass roots sports in our community please contact board chair Laura Torrans (250-352-9177) or executive director Kim Palfenier (250-352-3989) for more information.

When the Rick Hansen relay team was here many of them commented on the community spirit they witnessed here in our region. They were clearly touched by the reception they (personally and team) and the medal bearers received. They were truly grateful to the communities for totally embracing the Many in Motion concept.

Realizing and acknowledging local difference makers and their impact on our communities was always the focus of 25th anniversary tour.

So, on the heels of that event please show your support for Nelson’s 11th annual Relay for Life event on Saturday June 16 at Lakeside Park from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life is an inspiring event that brings together more than 200,000 people throughout Canada to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and empower individuals and communities to fight back against cancer. Until you take part you won’t feel the passion, the inspiration, and the hope that participants share at Relay For Life.

Participate at this year’s Relay For Life. Join a team, or become a team captain and get your friends, family or co-workers involved.
