The Ghostriders first two games of the season are showing a promising beginning for the team.
Although the team lost against the Castlegar Rebels on Sept. 11, head coach Craig Mohr said that he was pleased with how they played. “I think first game, young and nervous, but we were down 3-0 but we kept fighting and ended up losing 3-2. Pretty much had them on the ropes at the end,” he said.
Things turned around in Nelson the following night, where the Ghostriders played against the Leafs. Fernie led the game 3-1 by the end of the first period with two goals by Ty Carron and one by Cole Keebler. It was Andy Fitzpatrick who scored the Leafs’ first goal of the season. And in the second period it was Keebler who scored once again taking the Ghostriders to 4-1. The Leafs increased the pressure in the third resulting in goals and a final score of 4-3.
Stars of the game were Leafs Tanner Costa and Ghostrider Cole Keebler.
“I don’t think the score was reflective of the game,” said Mohr. “We were up 4-1 when they got a couple late in the third. But they played outstanding.”
“Both games, what I really liked, is that they worked hard and they competed very hard. That was the message going into the first weekend was that we want to outwork who we are playing and we want to out compete them, and I thought they did a real good job with that.”
The Ghostriders next game is in Creston on Sept. 20, against the Creston Thundercats. Their first home game is Sept. 26 against the 100 Mile House Wranglers.
