The Kamloops Blazers defeated the Vancouver Giants (whose home base is Langley) 3-0 on Friday night at the Sandman Centre in Kamloops.
Vancouver goaltender Ryan Kubic made 40 saves in the losing cause.
Nick Chyzowski put the Blazers on the board at 6:33 of the first period, scoring on a one-timer in the slot after a nice pass from Collin Shirley out of the left corner, explained spokesperson Brendan Batchelor.
The Giants had several quality scoring chances in the opening frame but couldn’t equalize after Ty Ronning, Tyler Brown and Tyler Benson were all denied by Kamloops goalie Connor Ingram.
Kubic stole the show in the second period, turning aside all 20 Kamloops shots, Batchelor said.
“He made a couple of tremendous saves on the same shift,” he added, noting that Kubic stopped Spencer Bast and Chyzowski one after the other.
Garrett Pilon made it 2-0 with a power play goal just after the midway mark of the third period and Rudolfs Balcers scored into an empty net.
The Giants went 0-for-4 on the power play and were out shot 43-40.
The two teams will face each other again on Saturday night at the Langley Events Centre at 7 p.m.
