Ryan Kubic made 28 saves for his first shutout of the season, and the Vancouver Giants blanked the Edmonton Oil Kings 2-0 on Tuesday night (Oct. 11) at Rogers Place.
Radovan Bondra scored the game winner for the Giants while Tyler Benson added an empty netter.
The Giants were outshot 13-2 in the first period, but nothing got past Kubic. Thomas Foster had Vancouver’s best chance of the second period, but he was stopped on a hard shot from the slot by Edmonton goalie Liam Hughes.
Bondra put Vancouver on the board just before the midway mark of the third period, scoring on a one-timer after Alec Baer forced a turnover in the Edmonton zone and fed the puck to him in the middle of the ice. Benson clinched the win on a late power play, scoring an empty net goal with under 10 seconds remaining.
Vancouver went 1-for-3 on the man advantage while Edmonton was 0-for-3 on its power play. The Oil Kings out shot the Giants 28-20.
The road trip win comes after the Giants scored a 5-3 win over the Calgary Hitmen on Oct. 10, the Thanksgiving Monday.
On Oct. 8, the Giants suffered a 5-4 loss in Prince George.
The Giants play next on Friday when they visit the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
