Glacier Gymnastics to add multi-purpose room

The expanded space will help accommodate the popular after-school programming

Glacier Gymnastics will begin construction of a multi-purpose room next year to accommodate its popular after-school programming.

The room, which will be built in phases in the current observation area above the gym, will be used for warmups and choreography.

Glacier co-president Isabelle Herzig said Tuesday the new room will give athletes and coaches some much-needed space during the busy 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. time slot.

“By opening up this spot, the kids who are doing warmup or are doing things that don’t need to be on specific apparatuses can come up here and that frees up the spots downstairs,” she said.

Herzig revealed plans for the room at the club’s annual general meeting.

Glacier remains one of Nelson’s most popular sports organizations. The club held steady at 797 total athletes for the 2017-18 season, with 68 enrolled in the competitive program.

The high enrollment also helped keep Glacier in the black. The club earned $450,000 in total income last year while posting a profit of $760.
