Glacier Kings beat Kerry Park 4-2 to tie VIJHL playoff series at 2-2

Game five goes Tuesday night at Comox Valley Sports Centre

What was once a best-of-seven series is now a best-of-three.

The Comox Valley Glacier Kings knocked off the Kerry Park Islanders 4-2 on Monday (Feb. 27) in Kerry Park to even their Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League quarter-final playoff series at two games apiece.

Game five goes tonight (Feb. 28) at the Comox Valley Sports Centre with face-off at 7:45 p.m. Game six goes March 1 in Kerry Park and game seven, if needed, will be played March 3 in Courtenay.

Monday night in Kerry Park, the visiting Glacier Kings opened a 1-0 lead on a first-period goal by Jed Martin and outscored the Islanders 3-1 in the second to take a three-goal lead into the third period.

Jonathan Speer, Derick Nicholson and Jordan Kamprath tallied the second-period markers for the Icemen.

Jake Newman and Cole Peterson replied for Kerry Park.

In other quarter-final action, the Oceanside Generals defeated the Peninsula Panthers 7-2 Monday to stave off elimination. The Panthers lead the series 3-1.

The Saanich Braves lead the Campbell River Storm 2-1 in that best-of-seven after skating to a 6-5 overtime win on Sunday.

The quarter-final winners will be re-seeded according to their regular season finish, with the lowest seed meeting regular season champs Victoria Cougars in the semifinals.
