Gladiators fall to Langley in U14 District final

Langley United Youth Soccer Association squad captures Cup championship

After a dominating regular season — they went 10-1-1 and had a goal differential of plus-41 — coach Sherman Foster was not sure what to expect when his team was moved up a division for the Fraser Valley district Cup playoffs.

But the Langley United Youth Soccer Association U14 House B team proved it more than belonged, downing the NCU Gladiators 2-0 in the championship game.

“We felt we might have some chance at the beginning of the season, but when they moved us up a division for Cup (play) we knew it would be a daunting task,” said coach Sherman Foster.

Langley scored once in the first half and then added an insurance marker with a few minutes remaining to cap off what the coach called a great season.

“The boys gelled fairly quickly and really worked hard for each other,” he said.

“The key to our success was the willingness of the boys to work hard and always make sure they outworked their opponents, which they did most of the time.”

In the final, Langley delivered a solid, sound defensive game plan, which did not allow their opponents any big plays.

The team consists of Janos Balai, Austin Dumont, David Field, Quinn Gifford, Jordan Swift, Lucas Konschuh-Beer, James Lee, Liam McKinnon, Ethan Moore, Chris Varley, Dario Pardetti, Colby Foster, Zach Parker, Juwan Richards and Sam McNichol. Coaches are Lane Foster and Sherman Foster.
