Goal drought continues for PCSL women

For the third time in five outings, Chilliwack's Pacific Coast Soccer League women didn't score a goal. But there's reason for optimism.

It’s back to the drawing board for Glenn Wilson after another offensively-challenged performance from his Pacific Coast Soccer League women’s squad.

Wilson’s team travelled to the North Shore Tuesday night to take on the NSGSC Stars.

Wilson shuffled the lineup beforehand, looking for a way to put more balls in the back of the net.

Instead, Chilliwack was kept off the scoreboard for the third time this season, playing to a scoreless draw.

“But we’re happy to get our first point on the board, and we played really, really well,” Wilson said Wednesday morning, sounding surprisingly upbeat. “We haven’t had the chance to address the lineup changes in training, so I’m confident that it will be corrected.”

Wilson’s crew now sits at 0-4-1 in the PCSL standings, which leaves them last in the nine-team circuit.

The road to the playoffs looks exceedingly tough, particularly in a league that, according to Wilson, has no weak teams. But the coach believes he’s got the group to do it.

This is probably the most talented team we’ve had the last few years in terms of fitness and ball skills,” he said. “We’ve got some very good youth and what we’ve got to do now is get that final ingredient right. If we can get them finishing around the net, we could be a contender.”
