Beautiful blue skies, sweltering heat and great greens were the backdrop for this weekend’s Gold Bowl played in Nanaimo.

According to Parksville Lawn Bowling Club’s Carol Bucyk, several teams from up and down Vancouver Island, as well as Powell River, took part, as well as a strong contingent from both Parksville and Qualicum.

The tournament consisted of five matches spread over three days, with the finals being played on Sunday afternoon.

In Division A, the Nanaimo team of Rick Quibell, Mary Mulligan and Vern Greenhill clipped Parksville’s Stu and Jan MacNaughton and Jim Muir.

Division B saw Parksville’s Mick Banks, and Rick and Lynne Britz beat out Jake and Elaine VanKooten and Anne Grist from Port Alberni.

In Division C’s hard fought all-Oceanside battle,  the QB team of Cor and Helena Poland and Gerry Murphy locked up the win over Parksville’s Chris and Martin Fereday and Kate Wilson

In the D Division,  Parksville’s Wayne and Brenda Edwards and Roberta Stets powered through to beat out Powell River’s Bob and Eileen Milsom and Maureen Hanright (Qualicum).

GAME ON: The Parksville Lawn Bowling Club hosts the  two day Men’s and Ladies Mixed Triples this weekend (Saturday and Sunday), with games going at  9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. both days.

The club is located at 149 E. Stanford, admission is free, and the public “is always welcome.”
