Golden girl takes three at UBC

Chilliwack’s Spartan Swim Club attended the UBC Mies Schootman Invitational Meet last weekend, sending their athletes up against 30 teams and more than 500 swimmers from across the province.

Jessie Gibson turned in an exceptional performance in the 13-year-old girls division, taking triple gold in the 100 and 200 metre flies and 400m individual medley.

She added a pair of silvers in the 50m fly and 200m individual medley, and finished fourth in the 200m breaststroke. Emily Henderson had a strong showing, winning gold in the 50m fly while placing seventh in the 400m individual medley.

Sydney Torok splashed to silver in the 800m freestyle,  adding a seventh place finish in the 400m freestyle and eight place finishes in the 200m fly and freestyle. In the 16-and-over girls division, Kelsy Langille earned bronze in the 400m individual medley, placing fourth in the 200m fly, sixth in the 800m freestyle and eighth in the 400m freestyle.

In the same division, Alana See worked her way to eighth in the 100m backstroke.

On the boys side, Jordan Torok had a dominating meet in the 16-and-over boys division.

Torok won gold in the 200m fly, 400m individual medley and 800m freestyle. He won silver in the 100m fly and 400m freestyle and scored bronze in the 50m fly.

In the same division, Jimmy Stewart battled his way to bronze in the 100m backstroke, placing fifth in the 50m backstroke and sixth in the 200m backstroke.

In the 14-year-old boys division, Carson Olafson earned double silver in the 100m fly and 800m freestyle and scored bronze in the 50m backstroke.

He added a fourth place finish in the 100m backstroke and 200m freestyle and backstroke.

Justin Awrey  (15-year-old boys) placed seventh in the 50m breaststroke
