The Salmon Arm Secondary Golds senior basketball team won two of their three league games last week.
The Golds suffered a close defeat against North Kamloops Secondary last Monday; the final score was 77-72.
“NorKam is good, and have a strong, big man that caused us some troubles. We had previously beat them in tournament play by 4, and we had our chances late in this one, we just couldn’t get the last couple shots to fall,” said coach Rhys Waters.
Dawson Mayes led the Golds on the score sheet with 27 points as well as seven rebounds.
The Golds faced Rutland Secondary from Kelowna last Tuesady, resulting in a 79-66 victory for the Salmon Arm team.
“This was a tough-fought game against a scrappy Rutland team,” Waters said.
McDonald led the team in this game with 29 points and nine rebounds while Novakowski scored 14 points.
On Saturday, the Golds came back from a big defecit at the half to inch out a 75-73 win against Penticton.
Penticton tied it up late, but a miraculous steal and push by Mayes to Novakowski for the winning layup at the buzzer won the game for the Golds.
The Golds host a game on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 5 p.m. It will be Seniors’ Night, as the Grade 12 players play their last game at SAS.
