By Leslie Stirling
Tuesday, May 16, dawned wet and ugly. I did some housework, some laundry and some gardening – the whole time wondering if the clouds would clear and we ladies would get to golf. At 3:45 p.m. I headed to the golf course full of optimism. I was NOT disappointed. A total of 31 ladies took to the fairways and enjoyed a lovely round of golf. Perhaps it wasn’t sunny but at least it didn’t rain. And Leslie says “That is good!”.
I did not have a particularly good game, but I did have a fun time riding around with Lois. She makes me forget the bad shots and always compliments me on the good shots. There were a number of ladies who did have good rounds and they were monetarily rewarded for doing so.
Brenda Oakland scored a 42 to win low gross for Flight 1 while Cindy Leibel scored 46 (34.5) to win low net. In Flight 2 Deb Legaree scored a 46 to win low gross while Vicki Hoffer had a 53 (37) to win low net. Jeannie Webber picked up low gross in Flight 3 with a score of 54 and Val Williams followed her closely with a 56 (36.5) to win low net. Low gross in Flight 4 went to Jen Amos with a 56 and Betty Baillie won second low gross with a score of 64. For those of you wondering – there is no low net in Flight 4 because those are the ladies who don’t yet have a handicap. Brenda Oakland scored a birdie on Hole 1 to keep the birdie pot to herself.
And I am absolutely sure that you are all wondering who our sponsors of the week are.
Because I can get so easily confused (just ask Bob) I have decided to do this in alphabetical order. Thank you goes out to AG Foods, Armour Mountain Office Supplies, Barriere A&W, Barriere Massage and Barriere Timber Mart. These fine folks have been sponsors for Chinook Cove Ladies Night for a number of years and we do appreciate their support.
The pin placement prizes were shared by a number of ladies although a couple played extra well and won more than one. Donna Salle had a KP in 3 (Hole 1) and a long putt (2). Cindy Leibel had two KPs (4 and 6). Betty Baillie had a long putt (Hole 5) and a KP (Hole 4). Audrey Rilcoe had a long drive (4) and a long putt (Hole 5). Babes Shanko dropped a long putt on Hole 3 and another on Hole 9. Deb Legaree had a fantastic round picking up prizes for KP in 2 (Hole 7), long putts (Hole 8 and 9) and least putts (15 putts). Susan Bondar had a KP in 3 on Hole 1. Wanda Amos drove well on Hole 2. Vicki Hoffer had a long putt on Hole 3. JoAnn Lyle had a good putt on Hole 3. Evelyn Lucas had a KP on Hole 4.
The dubious prize winners were Lynda Fournier with a short drive on Hole 9 and Deb Winiski for using her putter the most (25). A number of us including myself drove our balls into the gully on Hole 7 and picked up Rest In Peace prizes from North Thompson Funeral Services.
For those enquiring minds who want to know…we had a fantastic time on Saturday at the Club Opening Social. A total of 42 golfers managed to duck the rain and finished with a delicious dinner on the patio.
Bob told me I was hitting like a PGA golfer. I was very flattered but apparently the PGA stands for Pretty Gawd Awful. Back to the driving range.
