It could have been better, it could have been worse for Mac Gourdine.
The Vernon Golf and Country Club member cracked the top-10 at the 54-hole B.C. Juvenile Golf Championships at the Royalwood Golf Course in Chilliwack.
Gourdine, 15, heading into Grade 11 at Seaton Secondary, shot rounds of 72, 73, 73 to finish at 2-over par 218, good for a tie for ninth place in the field of 81.
“I started off bad on the first hole each day, but I kept it together,” said Gourdine. “I played pretty well, just not so much on the first hole. I’m pretty happy with the result.”
Gourdine, a right-handed player, had never played Royalwood until the tournament.
“It was windy and pretty hard, but it set up pretty nice for my game, except that first hole,” he chuckled.
Richmond’s Diego San Pedro defeated Langley’s Jaewook Lee in a playoff to capture the provincial title. Both golfers finished regulation play at 6-under 210, one shot ahead of A.J. Ewart of Coquitlam.
The only other Okanagan golfer beside Gourdine to make the 36-hole cut was Nicholas Jones of Kelowna, who finished at 16-over, tied for 38th spot.
Nanaimo’s Shirin Anjarwalla (12-under) won the girl’s tournament by one shot over Victoria’s Naomi Ko.
