The GW Graham Grade 8 Grizzlies won a President’s Cup title Tuesday, downing Langley’s HD Stafford Skyhawks 36-22.
Von Richardson was a one-man wrecking crew for the victors.
The two-way star scored all five GWG touchdowns, plus a two-point convert. He added an interception on defence.
Jake Troyan and Tyler Kermode also had two-point convert runs out of the single-wing offence as the Grizzlies erased a 14-0 halftime deficit.
The GWG defence was dominant in the second half.
Shane Claridge helped out with a fumble recovery.
Jesse Hough and Jared Pitkethly made tackles all over the field.
The President’s Cup is a tier-II AA trophy, not quite at the level of the provincial final this team reached last year.
Still, coach Sean Roach said his crew was thrilled with the win.
“They acted like they won the Super Bowl, yelling and screaming and dousing me with big jug of water,” he laughed. “And on the bus ride home, several times they broke out in song, singing ‘We are the Champions.”
