Granite Pointe has a solution for golfers who are too impatient for the snow to melt.
The golf course has installed two indoor driving cages in its clubhouse that can be accessed prior to the season opening later in the spring.
General manager David Belling, who last year was named one of the top 100 golf instructors in the world by World Golf Teachers Federation, says the off-season practice nets were a popular staple at past courses he’s worked at.
“Very successful, because it gives the guy who is not a winter guy a chance to come up and hit balls, gives him something to do,” said Belling. “So we’re starting on a small scale, only two cages. … If it goes well, possibly we’ll come back with two cages but one of those cages could be a simulator as well. One step at a time.”
Golfers can rent the cages with unlimited balls for either $10 per 30 minutes or with lessons at $30 per 30 minutes. The nets are open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday, beginning March 1.
The cages come with launch monitors that track club hit speed, face angle, distance and spin rate.
Belling said hitting balls for 30 minutes isn’t as easy as it might sound.
“I hit balls for 20 minutes the other day. I was dripping.”
