Barriere will be hosting the 2011 B.C. Under 18 zone netball championships from April 2-3, thanks to a grant for $3,000 received by the British Columbia Netball Association from the Hosting BC program.
In all, Kamloops and area will host four sporting championships thanks to $18,000 for local sports groups from Hosting BC.
“We’re known as Canada’s Tournament Capital, and there is a good reason for that,” says Kamloops-North Thompson MLA Terry Lake. “All who come for these events are going to be impressed by our hospitality and how well-organized these events are.”
Hosting BC funds are going to the following organizations in Kamloops and Barriere:
• Kamloops Aquatic Society DBA Kamloops Classic Swim Club is receiving $5,000 to host the Western Canadian Championships from February 17-20.
• The British Columbia Netball Association is receiving $3,000 to host the BC Under 18 Zone Championships in Barriere from April 2-3, at Barriere Secondary School.
• BC Hockey is receiving $5,000 to host the Male Under-16 BC Cup from April 27 to May 1.
• British Columbia Golf Association is receiving $5,000 to host the BC Amateur Championship from July 10-15.
