Chimo Gymnastics hosted its 19th gymnastics meet with over 200 athletes from around the Island, and brought home six gold medals, four silvers and four bronzes.
Coaches Toni, Ford, Trevor and Saskia had 45 competitive athletes from the Comox Valley competing. Jairus Ball, Yoanne Georgieva, Laeni Koszman, Lauren Quinn, Paige Randall and Malaiah Ceria won gold. Taking silver for their level and age categories were Payton Morrison, Elizabeth Macloed, Mya Drobot and Sheridan Osterman. Bronze winners included Annika Heemels, Avery Baker, Sophia Mossie and Taylor Paquette Parker.
Close behind the podium were Lilya Georgieva, Charlie Cudmore, Taelyn Stuve, Thea Macdonald, Thea Parker and Hailey Sample with fourth-place standings.
Many of these outstanding athletes are competing one or two levels higher than in previous years. Additional awards for best floor choreography and most dynamic vault went to Malaiah Ceria and Jessie DeBalinhard respectively.
Chimo was also well represented by several interclub and high school girls who presented themselves proudly in this performanc-based program. Vanier athletes Paige Thexton and Brooke Berg took first and second place respectively, while Alex Vinzenz from Isfeld was third and Jada McGregor from Cumberland Community School fourth.
A great start to the gymnastics season.
