Chilliwack Golf and Country Club’s Jennifer Greggain fired a combined 150 Monday and Tuesday to take the PGA of BC’s 2013 Womens’ Championship trophy.
Playing on her home course, Greggain went head to head with Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club’s Ashley Zibrik and GolfTEC North Vancouver’s Shannon Briggs.
Greggain was nine strokes better than Zibrik, with the three women competing in the PGA of BC Assistants Championship field.
She shot 80 on day one, and held a five stroke lead over Zibrik.
“I struggled the first day, trying to shake off a triple bogey on my second hole,” Greggain said. “I steadied myself after that, but couldn’t really get anything solid going.”
Greggain cut 10 strokes on day two, carding a 70.
“I felt really good about my play on day two, and will now be preparing myself for the CPGA Women’s championship in Ontario, then on to defend the Northwest Women’s Open in July.”
Summerland Golf and Country Club’s Greg Machtaler was the overall winner of the Assistants Championship, shooting 134 to win the tourney by two strokes.
Gord Scutt (Olympic View Golf Club) was second at 136. Shaughnessy’s Lindsay Bernakevitch was third at 137.
The PGA of BC Seniors Championship, for golfers 50 years and older, was also held Monday and Tuesday at CG&CC. Roy Abbenbroek (Seymour Golf and Country Club) took top spot with a two-day 144.
He was one shot better than second place finishers Cory Draper (Capilano Golf and Country Club) and Keith Vandenbrink (Hillview Golf Course).
