Grizzlies extend win streak

BCHL team looks to make hay on mainland this weekend

Heading into this week’s B.C. Hockey League action, the Victoria Grizzlies were looking to move into a tie for second spot in the Island Division, a place they haven’t held since early this season.

The Grizzlies (14-10-0-5) enter tonight’s home game against Cowichan Valley at The Q Centre on a three-game win streak, after beating Powell River Kings 5-2 on Saturday at The Q Centre.

Powell River (14-10-0-7) opened scoring 6:05 into the first period, but it was all Grizzlies after that.

The locals built period leads of 2-1 and 3-1 and extended their lead to 4-1 midway through the final frame.

Jay Mackie and Meirs Moore led the attack with a goal and an assist each, while Matthew Kennedy, Cody Van Lierop and Jake Emilio also scored in the win.

Liam Lawson and Jordan Burns scored for the Kings.

Victoria outshot the Kings 38-31 and Michael Stiliadis made 29 saves to pick up his 11th win of the season.

Tonight’s game gets underway at 7 p.m. The Grizzlies head out for a mainland road trip that sees them play three games in three nights Friday through Sunday against Coquitlam, Langley and Surrey.
