Danielle Groenendijk helped B.C.’s U17 girls provincial volleyball team to a fourth-place finish in the U18 girls division at the National Team Challenge Cup in Richmond last week.
The Duncan Christian School student played outside hitter as Team BC went 3-1 in the round robin, then won their first playoff match before dropping the next two.
In round-robin play, Groenendijk’s team beat Newfoundland and Labrador Grey 3-0, Quebec 2 3-1, and New Brunswick U17 Black 3-0 before losing 3-0 to Alberta U18.
B.C. opened the playoff round with a 3-0 sweep of Nova Scotia, then lost 3-1 to Alberta U17 in the semifinals and 3-0 to Saskatchewan Green in the bronze-medal game.
Groenendijk and her teammates had two weeks of intense training at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops prior to the National Team Challenge Cup tournament.
