Four former Riptide players and coach Ash Mohtadi were part of the VIU Mariners women’s soccer team that won the Pacific Western Athletic Association (PacWest) 2018 Provincial Soccer Championship.

The team beat Capilano University 2-0 on their home field in Burnaby on Saturday, Oct. 27.

Chloe Gummer, PacWest player of the year, scored the first and winning goal in the finals. She was joined on the team by fellow Comox Valley United products Justine McMahon, a striker, and goalkeeper Cassidy Chamberlin. The last Riptide player, team captain Drew Murray, a defender from Powell River, was a PacWest all-star.

Mohtadi, part of the Riptide technical team, is an assistant coach.

The team next competes in the CCAA national championships, hosted by Douglas College in New Westminster from Nov. 7-10.
