GW Graham basketballer selected for Team Canada U-17

Deanna Tuchscherer will join 11 others on a trip to Belarus for international action.

GW Graham basketball star Deanna Tuchscherer has made the national team roster for the upcoming FIBA U-17 Women’s Basketball World Cup 2018.

The tournament runs July 21-29 in Minsk, Belarus and pits Canada against a field that includes Angola, Argentina, Australia, Belarus, China, Colombia, France, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Mali, New Zealand, Spain and the United States.

Canada Basketball revealed the 12 woman roster Monday morning.Tuchscherer, who will enter her senior season at GWG next fall, is one of three B.C. players on the team, joined by South Kamloops secondary star Olivia Morgan-Cherchas and Semiahmoo secondary standout Faith Dut.

The roster includes two Albertans, two Quebec natives and five Ontarians.

The team is guided by head coach Jodi Gram (Bill Crothers secondary), joined by assistants Dani Sinclair (University of Victoria) and Albena Branzova-Dimitrova (Université du Québec à Montréal).

Tuchscherer’s crew leaves for Europe tomorrow (Thursday) and has exhibition games planned for this weekend against Latvia, China and the United States in Liepaja, Latvia.

Last summer, the team earned a silver medal at the FIBA U-16 Women’s Americas Championship 2017 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Canada is currently ranked fourth in the FIBA World Ranking.
