Cairo Almarez exploded for 28 points Friday night, leading his GW Graham Grizzlies past Vancouver’s Magee Lions by an 85-77 count in a senior boys basketball AAA provincial quarter-final.
The game was played at the Langley Events Centre.
Almarez was a three point bomber, dropping six shots from beyond the arc. He shot nine of 18 overall from the field, adding four assists, two rebounds and a steal to his stat line.
The Grizzlies led 18-16 after one quarter and pulled away with a big second quarter, out-scoring Magee 22-13 to lead 40-29 at the half.

The Lions cut into the lead in the third quarter, but the Grizzlies made big shots when they needed them.
Clay Kurtz didn’t have his sharpest shooting night, but hitting on eight of 22 attempts from the field, and seven of nine from the free throw line, gave him 24 points.
The Klim twins, Matthias and Zach, combined for 19 points, two shot blocks and 27 rebounds.
GW Graham now heads into a semi-final match against the Vernon Panthers, tipping off tonight (Friday) at 5:15 p.m.
The Grizzlies are the third seed in the tournament and Vernon is the second seed.
The top seeded Duchess Park (Prince George) Condors are takng on Sir Charles Tupper in the other semi-final.
