Two Vernon athletes from North Valley Gymnastics achieved personal bests in the Provincial Artistic Gymnastics Championships in North Vancouver last weekend.

A total of 660 gymnasts, representing 48 clubs, participated in an event that was the final trials for the Canadian Gymnastics Championship in May, and a step on the road to the Pam Am Games and worlds later this year.

Brooklyn Ashby placed 20th all around in a field of 32 in the Junior Olympic (JO) 6 category.

Aysia Morgan was 14th all around (out of 22 athletes) in the JO 5 category, highlighted with a fifth on floor exercise and first place for Zone 2 (Thompson/Okanagan) team.

Both girls achieved their personal best in their all around scores, and received their first score above 9.0 (both on floor).

“It’s always hard for an athlete to go into such a huge competition and not know what to expect, but both of the girls did great,” said North Valley coach Naomi Rokus.

“Both had a few downs, but way more ups. It was a great experience and they both took away some new goals and ideas for future competition.”

The entire competitive girls team is now preparing for the Ogopogo Invitational, June 5-7, at Royal LePage Place in West Kelowna.
