Abbotsford golfer Adam Hadwin posted a breakthrough result on the Web.com Tour, finishing fifth at the United Leasing Championship in Newburgh, Ind.
Hadwin’s Web.com campaign had been a struggle to this point – he’d missed the cut at five out of 11 tournaments, and had yet to notch a top-10 finish.
The 25-year-old remedied that at the United Leasing Championship, carding rounds of 70, 71, 67 and 71 to wind up at nine under par. That left him in solo fifth place, two strokes out of a four-man playoff. Ashley Hall of Australia and Americans Ben Martin, Billy Hurley III and Joe Affrunti will come back to the Victoria National Golf Club for a sudden-death playoff after play was suspended due to darkness Sunday.
Hadwin’s finish will see him rocket up the Web.com Tour order of merit – he had been in 99th spot with $22,800 earned so far this season. The top 25 on the list at season’s end earn PGA Tour cards.
Earlier this month, Hadwin qualified for the U.S. Open, but ended up missing the cut.
