In the final event of the PGA Tour’s regular season, just one Canadian golfer made the final cut – Abbotsford’s Adam Hadwin.
After four rounds, Hadwin finished the 76th annual Wyndham Championship tied for 51st, which was good for a $12,787 payout.
Hadwin left the course at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., five-under, shooting 68, 68, 66, 73 through the weekend.
The Abbotsford golfer’s best performance of the season remains his finish in the Crowne Plaza Invitational in May where he tied for fifth.
One of the biggest stories of the weekend was Tiger Woods’ top-10 finish, something the legendary golfer hadn’t done since 2013. Woods’ strong performance, along with that of local favourite and Wyndham champion, Charlotte-born Davis Love III, pushed the crowd to a sellout.
Love shot 17-under through four rounds, tallying 64, 66, 69, 64 through four rounds, leaving Jason Gore one shot back of the lead. Love claimed $972,000 as the winner’s share.
PGA Tour pro Nick Taylor of Abbotsford was also a part of the field at Wyndham; however, the local golfer failed to make the cut, finishing tied for 71st after shooting 71 and 67 in the opening two rounds.
Taylor competed in last week’s PGA Championship where he made the cut, and claimed just over $18,000 for his 68th-place finished.
Hadwin and Taylor, who sit 95th and 102nd in the FedExCup rankings, respectively, will be taking to the links at The Barclays 125-player field in New York, Aug. 27-30, in the opening tournament of the post-season quartet that make up the PGA Tour playoffs.
The post-season will continue with the Deutsche Bank Championship (100 players) and the BMW Championship (70 players) before a reset takes place to seed the top 30 players for the season-concluding Tour Championship by Coca-Cola in late September.
