Local PGA Tour pro Adam Hadwin posted a top-ten finish at Canada’s largest golf event over the weekend.
Hadwin finished 12-under, five shots back of the lead at the 2015 RBC Canadian Open at Glen Abbey Golf Club.
Hadwin was still in the mix of front-runners on the last day of the tournament, but faltered down the stretch.
“Getting off to a start like that, I thought today could be something special,” Hadwin told the Toronto Sun on Sunday. “I felt in the right frame of mind. I was hitting the shots early and then kind of got derailed on seven and eight.”
Hadwin was five under through his first six holes Sunday to move him to 13-under.
However, the 27-year-old then went on to bogey his next two holes, and was up and down over the back nine, birdying four holes, parring three, and posting a bogey and double-bogey on holes 12 and 14 to land at four-under on the day and 12-under for the tournament.
Australia’s Jason Day earned top honours and finished at 17-under.
Hadwin’s best rounds of golf came in the second and third day of play, where he finished at 67.
The Abbotsford native collected a little over $174,000 in winnings and was the second-highest finisher among Canadian golfers, behind Ontario’s David Hearn who finished third overall.
Nick Taylor, meanwhile, made the cut, and finished the tournament at five-under, which was good for 56th place.
He took home just over $13,000.
Both golfers are back in action this weekend at the QuickenLoans National in Virginia.
