The W.J. Mouat Hawks finished third in the senior girls division of the Gran Forza Relay held last week at the Richmond Olympic Oval, earning a $500 prize for the school’s track and field program.
The event drew 16 senior girls teams, with Pitt Meadows (3,757 points), Oak Bay (3,753) and Mouat (3,729) comprising the top three. The scores were calculated by utilizing international scoring tables.
Mouat’s points came from Alex Siemens (second in the 800m, 2:22.43), Hailey Gibson (third in 60m dash, 7.00 seconds), Jory Smallenburg (fifth in standing long jump, 2.15m), and middle distance runner Callum Pilgrim (14th in shot put, 6.07m). The above four girls combined to place fifth in the 4×200m relay (1:56.57).
Siemens, Gibson and Pilgrim are members of Abbotsford’s Valley Royals track and field club, as are Katie Crivello and Hannah Konrad, who participated in the event on behalf of the Yale Lions. Crivello recorded a time of 7.10 in the 60m, while Grade 9 runner Konrad ran 2:27.97 in the 800m.
